Supporting our colleagues

Learning and development

From day one, you’ll have access to a whole range of training and development opportunities. And throughout your career here, you’ll have regular reviews with your manager to assess your development needs and areas you should focus on. It all starts with the initial training and guidance for your first role. If that role is customer facing, you’ll have access to a full learning programme that’ll support you through the five career levels, as well as classroom and live academy training.

Whatever team you join, you’ll also be able to take advantage of our online ‘Your Career’ portal. This acts as a gateway to a variety of learning programmes, from practical workshops, to downloadable guides and recommended reading. In fact, we’re always looking for new ways to help our people improve their skills and further their careers. That’s why we introduced our apprenticeship programmes in 2017.

Listening to you

Join us and we’ll encourage you to voice your opinions when it comes to business decisions. So, it makes sense that we’ll also listen to you about life at Hastings Direct.

That’s why we run an annual engagement survey to find out what our people think about working here. But it’s not just a token exercise. We use the feedback to form company-wide and local action plans that feed through to our 4Cs objectives.

Of course, it doesn’t stop there. Our people have the scope to voice their thoughts, ideas and frustrations - in fact, whatever’s on their mind – through a weekly newsletter, monthly colleague forums, annual colleague roadshows and even in the coffee queue.

Saying thank you

We believe our people deserve to be recognised for going the extra mile and producing great work. So, we use the 4Cs to measure the effect individual and group performance has had on our colleagues, company, customers and local communities.

With our 4Cs Awards programme, you’ll be able to nominate anyone in the business for the impact they’ve had. There are monthly and annual awards, and in 2017 there were over 2,060 nominations, with the seven most deserving winners receiving recognition at our annual 4Cs Awards event.

Supporting great causes

Throughout the year our people make massive efforts to raise money for our charity partners, as well as contributing to the local communities we work in through a wide range of fundraising events and activities. In 2018 the beneficiaries are:

An inclusive workplace

We encourage our people to be themselves, because we believe diversity of thinking and different perspectives strengthen the way we work. So, we regularly monitor the demographic and diversity of our colleagues.

Every stage of our recruitment and selection process is designed to bring out the best in you. To help us attract and retain the best talent in our industry, regardless of your background. Which means that we encourage you to bring your whole self to work. We celebrate our differences and never discriminate.

You’ll find it’s an approach that continues throughout your career with us.
